Nejat is a Turkish born New Zealander who is a sculptor of contemporary cast glass work. Unique and diverse in their style, Nejat’s collection of sculptures and figureheads reflects his personal journey.

Born in South Eastern Turkey (in old Mesopotamia), Nejat has been fascinated by the medium of glass and its place in history since childhood. It is the power of glass and its ability to be mysterious, unpredictable and charming that has Nejat spellbound.

Holding Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy, Nejat is a true entrepreneur from importing glassware from Europe into New Zealand to inventing and patenting a unique sandblasting technique for commercial use. Nejat later moved into the design business and began working with New Zealand wool, and established TechLoom Rug & Carpet Creations, custom rugs and carpets with designs based on New Zealand artist paintings by Ralph Hotere, John Papas and Des Robertshaw, amongst others.

In seeking a personal outlet in which to express these life experiences, Nejat has turned to the medium of glass, his long-time enchantress by which to communicate his creativity.

Finding inspiration for his cast work from what he has seen and experienced as a young man growing in Eastern Europe and now from his life in New Zealand, Nejat’s work is distinctive and exciting for his bold use of colour and proportion. More info…
