ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My art is a journey of discovery into the essence of being, to access the realm of stillness within myself, the most important dimension of human existence – the sacred – the core – the divine.
Painting, is an exploration of self. Abstract painting helps to convey universal elements: rhythm, movement, texture, colour and reflects that state of consciousness from which it comes. Everything in the universe has a rhythm, everything dances. My work is a reflection of my personal response to deep human emotions, the energy of nature and the elements of our universe rather than what we actually see in the physical world.
I find that making art, in itself is a meditative experience – the world ceases to exist. It is not a forced meditation, rather something that happens when I am fully absorbed in my painting process. The most important part of the process I use is layering, this allows the work to slowly reveal itself to me. Although my pieces are not planned in advance, each work begins as an impression in the mind, I then I allow myself to be guided intuitively through the process. I simply start with one element and keep building on it. I use a blend of techniques, including raw mark making, rich textural surfaces and transparency. My process involves experimenting with materials and combining them in various ways. I try to convey energy, tension and a sense of wonder but at the same time I try to create harmony within each piece. My hope for the viewer is to be drawn into a semi meditative space, activating for them a intuitive response to the my work. If one can evoke a viewer’s deep emotion or a connection to a divine source through her art, it is a true privilege. My aim, is to be such an artist.
